The Lincoln Tunnel is the world's only three-tube underwater vehicular tunnel facility, providing a vital link between New York City and New Jersey. 120,000 vehicles per day travel through the Lincoln Tunnel, making it the busiest vehicular tunnel in the world.
The concrete approaches were in need of repair, and in certain areas could not be closed for more than a few hours. The Port Authority required the use of Rapid Set® in one area, and after the successful pour, Crisdel Construction decided to use it in other areas.
During July 2004, the test pour was made and the Rapid Set® Concrete achieved 690 psi flexural strength in 4 hours and 890 psi in 28 days. Crisdel was so impressed that they decided to use Rapid Set® for the critical panel directly in front of the tunnel. In June 2005, the pour was completed with great success. In total, Crisdel placed approximately 210 cubic yards of Rapid Set® Concrete.
